Let little things go…
They really aren’t that important. Sometimes we think that just because we are busy we are being productive. We think that movement is progress… but that’s just not the case.
If you’re going to hit your fitness goals you’re going to have to let the laundry pile up. If you’re going to write that book, you’re going to have to let the dishes get backed up. If you’re going to build that great new app or blog, you’re going to have to let the house look like a mess.
If you’re going to get shit done, you’re going to have to let little things fall through.
It’s incredibly vital that you put the important, long-term tasks, at the top of your list, every single day. If you keep worrying about how messy the house is, how behind the chores are, and all the other little things think are important, you’re going to look back on your life with regret.
Who ever grew old, looked back and said, “Damn… I’m really glad I busted my ass on keeping that laundry done!” Who ever laid on their death bed and looked back saying, “Man.. I really wish I would have done more dishes…“
If you’re not sure what the little things are, just think about 10 years from now. Are you going to look back and regret not doing it? Are you going to regret chores? Are you going to regret keeping your lawn looking top-notch all summer? Don’t confuse movement with progress.
Now, I’m not saying don’t do dishes or laundry. You need clean dishes to eat off of and clean clothes to wear. Your kids need their sports uniforms clean before each game. You need clean dishes to cook dinner. What I’m saying is, do the bare minimum for those things.
Do enough dishes that you can eat tomorrow. Do enough laundry that everyone can get dressed in clean clothes in the morning. Mow your lawn just often enough that the city doesn’t fine you. Do just enough, to get what you need out of it.
And if you have some extra time on the weekend. You’ve smashed your goals for the day and you got a couple of extra minutes, sure go ahead, get ahead on laundry. Just don’t let it drive your day and steal your time away. We each only have 24 hours in an entire day. That’s it… 24 hours to live your best life. Don’t waste it on chores.
Let the little things fall through.
